Biography

Welcome. My name is Ryan Maddux and I’m an actor, spokesperson, and voiceover artist. Born in Minneapolis, I studied and worked in California for several years before returning to the Twin Cities. With a passion for travel, I go where the work is and I enjoy making connections wherever that leads. I hold a MA in theater arts from Humboldt State University (HSU) and a BA in theater arts from the University of MN, Twin Cities. In addition to my acting experience, I’ve studied dance, stage combat, voice, and directing.

With family roots in theater and music, I’m drawn to roles with three-dimensional characters who are consciously (or subconsciously) navigating life’s obstacles. My guilty pleasures are true crime stories or a hearty mystery filled with twists and turns which keep audiences captivated. I often portray the loving father, compassionate doctor or powerhouse politician but can navigate the complexities of more sinister characters, too. Some of the favorite characters I’ve played are recurring appearances as Dr. John Watson, Roat in Wait Until Dark, Dr. Cukrowicz in Suddenly Last Summer and as the corrupt politician Marcus in the recent film Tribulations.

In acting for theater as well as film and television, I enjoy exploring the intersection (convergence / divergence) of self and character to create relatable and authentic characters an audience feels drawn to. As a commercial actor and spokesperson, I rely on my work experience in leadership development and executive presence to help businesses thrive. I want to be known as a hardworking and trusted collaborator. With a passion for storytelling and social justice, I am deeply committed to creating safe spaces with partners who proactively advance equity, civility, and mindfulness.

I am committed to continual learning and growth both as an artist and as a human being. As a result, I’ve begun participating in legal, medical, and law enforcement scenario based and standardized client interviews. For fun, I’ve been studying animation acting and improv and keep physically active by participating in a variety of amateur seasonal activities like: kayaking, paddle-boarding, hiking, rock wall climbing, skiing, snowshoeing, and ice-skating. In my community, I volunteer for organizations who fight food insecurity, tackle youth homelessness, and care for victims of child abuse.

“The second act had me at the edge of my seat…and holding my breath at multiple points caused by the terrifyingly good performance of Ryan D. Maddux as Roat. His portrayal of this criminal character in partnership with Shannon Elliot’s lighting design left me in shock…”
